The Biopath Program is managed by Research Safety & Services, another area of the Environmental Health & Safety Department (EH&S). Enrollment in the Biopath Program is required for personnel who may be working with risk group 3 agents in a BSL3 or ABSL3 laboratory.
For specific details on who is required to participate in the program, please follow the link to the Biopath Program Home Page.
Initial Biopath physicals and renewals are available at the Occupational Medicine Clinic on Main Campus at (352) 294-5700.
For any physicals that require the use of a respirator, you may need to be referred to CareSpot for a medical clearance where a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) will need to be performed. Requirements for a PFT are dependent on the medical questions answered by the affected personnel on the respirator medical questionnaire.
Here are some links to the forms that are required for the Biopath Physical Program:
What happens if I also need to be referred to CareSpot for additional assessments, such as a PFT? Please contact the Occupational Medicine Clinic at (352) 294-5700, who will be able to guide you on the specific assessments required. If you need assistance in completing the CareSpot Authorization Form, you may contact EH&S at (352) 392-1591, and the Occupational Medicine Consultant will be able to assist.
I’m working with a special agent where a vaccination is required. Who offers the special agent vaccinations? Please contact the Occupational Medicine Clinic at (352) 294-5700. The University of Florida Occupational Medicine Clinic can provide some of the vaccinations that are required for the Biopath Program.
The Occupational Health Clinic doesn’t offer all the vaccines that are needed for my research. What to do I do? Please contact the Occupational Medicine Consultant at EHS. EHS may be able to connect you to a third-party medical vendor that can provide the needed vaccines and coordinate the distribution of such.
Additional Questions? Please feel free to contact the Occupational Medicine Consultant at (352) 392-1591, who may be able to address any concerns or questions relative to the Biopath Program or any other Occupational Health Program.
