Training

Safety training is a vital tool for reducing accidents and injuries which ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulation. A comprehensive list of required EH&S training can be found here.

Training is assigned based on scope and renewal requirements will vary. Training is automatically assigned in Gator TRACS based on selected activities in the LATCH assessment. Alternatively, an EH&S staff member, the Principal Investigator or Lab Manager may manually assign training to an individual or group of individuals in Gator TRACS.

Lab Safety Manual

Each laboratory at the university is unique, by virtue of the research being performed, the equipment in use, and the physical layout of the lab or utilization of space. Regardless of the characteristics, teaching and research laboratories at the University of Florida must adhere to the basic safety policies outlined in the Lab Safety Manual.

Although the Lab Safety Manual covers the basic principles for working in a laboratory at the University of Florida, it is not intended to be a complete listing of laboratory hazards or safe practices. Personnel with specific questions not covered in the manual are urged to call upon EH&S for assistance.

Standard Operating Procedures

Safety SOPs are intended to inform and educate laboratory personnel about hazards in their workplace and identify special handling procedures, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure.  More information, including SOP examples and templates, can be found here.

Policies & Guidelines

Safety policies provide a clean framework and set expectations for maintaining a safe environment, protecting employees, and ensuring compliance with regulations. UF maintains an overarching Environmental Health & Safety policy outlining the institution’s commitment to safety and compliance. A copy of this policy can be found here.

Additional EH&S policies can be found on our Policy Page.
