Respirator Use

Will the individual be required to use a respirator?

When effective engineering controls of potential health hazards caused by breathing air contaminated with harmful levels of chemical, physical, or biological agents are not feasible, appropriate respiratory protection shall be used.

The Respiratory Protection Program impacts all employees, students, volunteers, and contractors (working under direct UF supervision) who are required, or elect, to wear respiratory protection as part of their employment.

Respirator users will also participate in the Medical Monitoring Program for Pesticide Users if the pesticide class, frequency of use, and amount require it. Please refer to the Pesticide Use description for decision criteria. Full program details are available on the UF EH&S Respiratory Protection page.

Health Assessment Requirements

The preplacement health assessment for those who will be using a respirator includes a preplacement physical examination and a baseline pulmonary function test. If the individual is required to participate in the medical monitoring program for pesticide users, baseline blood testing is also required.
