Scientific Research Diving

Will the individual be engaged in scientific research diving?

Scientific Diving is defined (29 CFR 1910.402) as diving performed solely as a necessary part of a scientific, research, or educational activity by employees whose sole purpose is to perform scientific research tasks. Health Assessment Requirements

A medical evaluation must be completed before a diver may begin diving[cite: 10]. Periodic evaluations occur at 5-year intervals up to age 40, every 3 years between ages 40 and 60, and every 2 years after age 60[cite: 10]. Evaluations are also required following any major injury, illness, or hospital care[cite: 10].

The preplacement health assessment includes a physical examination, health history review, baseline audiogram, and specific laboratory testing[cite: 10].
