Will the individual be engaged in asbestos work?
Medical examinations and consultations are required for all employees who are engaged in asbestos work for a combined total of 30 or more days per year, are exposed at or above the permissible exposure limit or excursion limit, or wear negative pressure respirators. Days when fewer than 60 minutes of asbestos work are completed are not included in the 29-day count. Full program details are available on the UF EH&S Asbestos Program page.
Health Assessment Requirements
The preplacement health assessment for those engaged in asbestos work includes a physical examination and a medical and work history, with special emphasis directed to the pulmonary, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal systems. A pulmonary function test and any examinations deemed necessary by the examining physician will also be conducted.
