Safety Surveys are performed, at minimum, annually by EH&S to ensure labs are operating safely and in accordance with the policies pertinent to the type of research conducted and agents used in the lab. The visit is an opportunity for EH&S to provide educational support regarding potential safety hazards and to raise awareness of regulatory requirements. If a safety issue is observed, the surveyor will offer recommendations to aid the staff in correcting the issues. Our goal is to empower researchers to identify and correct safety issues anytime throughout the year, not only when EH&S conducts a safety survey. Survey reports are documented in Gator TRACS and sent to the Principal Investigator with a summary of corrective actions. Visit the Gator TRACS page for more information on how to use the inspection module.
- Labs can prepare for a Lab safety survey by reviewing the Lab Safety Survey Explanation Guide.
- The yearly Lab Safety Survey Schedule provides a general timeline of when labs may be inspected by the Lab Safety Office. The schedule provided is subject to change and is not a commitment for a specific month. Note: Safety surveys conducted by the Biosafety Office will follow a separate schedule.
- When it is time to schedule the safety survey, an EH&S Coordinator will email the Principal Investigator and Lab Manager directly to schedule an appointment.
