Excessive Noise

Will the individual work in an area of excessive noise?

Employees and individuals who work in designated high-noise areas or are exposed to noise levels exceeding the OSHA 8-hour time-weighted average action level of 85 dBA must be enrolled in the University of Florida Hearing Conservation Program. Health Assessment Requirements

The preplacement health assessment includes a baseline audiometric exam (hearing test) and a noise exposure medical history review to evaluate baseline hearing thresholds prior to potential workplace exposure.

  1. The department:
    • Identifies this job duty in myUFL position information, or completes the online INOP Form based on supervisor input.
    • Submits the Payment Authorization Form.
    • Calls the UF OCCMED Clinic at (352) 294-5700 to schedule a baseline hearing test. (Note: The individual must avoid high noise levels for at least 14 hours prior to the baseline audiogram).
