Lamp Ballasts

Lamp ballasts removed from lighting fixtures may include an insulating material which contains PCBs (Poly Chlorinated Biphenyls) or DEHP (Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate).   Ballasts contaminated with these chemicals are prohibited from entering landfills and must be collected for recycling.  All lamp ballasts (including those with and without PCB’s) are collected for recycling or disposal through EH&S’s Chemical and Radioactive Waste Disposal group.

Emergency lighting ballasts contain a circuit board and Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries, both of which must be recycled through EH&S.
