Disposal of Hazardous Waste
All Hazardous Waste at the University of Florida must be properly disposed of through the Environmental Health and Safety Department’s Chemical and Radioactive Waste Disposal group. Sink disposal of hazardous chemicals is expressly forbidden.
Lab waste managers may submit an online request for chemical waste pickup. Prior to submitting this request, the waste manager must ensure that all containers to be collected are tightly capped and properly labeled. Any waste which has leaked or been spilled on the outside of the container should be cleaned up prior to collection. Liquid waste containers should have adequate headspace at the top of the container (approximately 1” at least) to minimize leakage during transport. It is very important that labels be checked for accuracy prior to collection, and approximate percentages for each constituent should be estimated by a knowledgeable person in the lab.
