Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP)

The University of Florida requires a Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) from all Principal Investigators, Lab Managers, contractors or similar personnel, who work with chemicals in laboratory settings. The CHP is now part of the GatorTRACS/LATCH software.

Please click to access the University’s General Chemical Hygiene Plan.

The Chemical Hygiene Plan quantifies procedures, controls, work practices and personal protective equipment required in labs. It is intended to protect employees from the health and physical hazards presented by hazardous chemical use in laboratories while meeting the requirements set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) standard on Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories.

The Chemical Safety component of the Lab & Chemical Safety Program provides guidance on recognizing, evaluating and controlling potential hazards associated with laboratory/research chemical operations. Please contact the University’s Chemical Hygiene Officer, Erica Gonzaga, for guidance on the development and implementation of the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
