No Fishing Policy
The objective of this policy is to establish requirements for human safety regarding standing water sources.
By authority delegated from the University President, the Vice-President for Business Affairs is responsible for the safety of all University facilities. Under this authority, policies are developed to provide a safe teaching, research, service, housing and recreational environment.
This policy prohibits fishing in any University of Florida Gainesville main campus standing water source. This includes Lake Alice, ponds, water-filled sinkholes and running water. The primary basis for this restriction is human safety. Many of these water bodies are inhabited by alligators, snakes, etc., that can be a danger to humans. Although warning signs of these wildlife concerns exist at many of the water locations, the University does not want to encourage an activity that will require humans to be on the shoreline or in the water.
It is the responsibility of all UF faculty, staff, students and visitors to follow this policy.
