Laboratory Chemical Waste Management
All laboratory workers at the University of Florida have three basic responsibilities when it comes to properly managing the chemical wastes being generated within the lab. These responsibilities are:
- Proper identification of all wastes which require management as Hazardous Waste
- Once identified, proper accumulation (or storage) of all Hazardous Wastes
- Proper Hazardous Waste disposal via the EH&S Chemical and Radioactive Waste Disposal group
Environmental Health and Safety’s Chemical and Radioactive Waste Disposal group is available to assist with all of these important responsibilities. This portion of the EH&S website is designed to provide a basic framework of regulations and policies to assist new lab members with these three vital tasks. Following UF’s hazardous waste management guidelines is critical for safety and maintaining compliance with complex state and federal regulations..
